Creating the Australian White
Some years ago, the principals of two leading Australian stud operations saw the need to develop a unique Australian sheep breed to fill a gap in the market that no other imported breeds of this type could adequately fill. They set about naturally breeding a haired sheep, tailor made to meet the exact requirements of Australian processors but also suit specialist lamb producers. In doing so they were able to breed sheep that could run as a self replacing flock and supply rams in a terminal system to increase size, weight and growth rates in crossbred flocks for meat production.
